Exploring Colleges in the Carolinas
“I want sun.” “I want a college where I will have warm weather.” Hawaii, Southern California, Texas, Florida, and Alabama are the first places that come to mind. But what about the Carolina schools? Some of these quality colleges have a lower sticker price than those found in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states.
I had visited Duke and UNC Charlotte before, but I thought I would visit some of the others besides these highly regarded brand name schools. I visited in February, so admittedly saw neither sun nor warmth. Instead, I saw much more.
I visited 9 schools in one week: Elon, Guilford, WakeForest, High Point, Queens University of Charlotte, Davidson, Wofford, Furman,and Clemson.
This blog will highlight not every aspect of every school that can be found elsewhere, but rather the things that were differentiators for each school.
I was on a bus tour with 40 other Independent Educational Consultants and although we didn’t get giddy enough to sing “100 bottles of beer on the wall,” we did have hours to share our impressions of each school visited. So, the following is a combination of my thoughts and those that I shared from their perspectives. I tried to distinguish between those things that are somewhere between marketing hype and those that were more unique and valuable.
